Our Breeding Philosophy
Our breeding philosophy is to produce the healthiest, friendliest, CFA Breed Standard Maine Coons. When we choose a queen or stud for our program, the first hurdle the cat must cross is health testing. Our stud and queens are examined by our veterinarians, DNA tested through Wisdom and North Carolina State University, and after their first birthday, they begin being x-rayed for hip dysplasia
We DNA test our cats for HCM - Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. North Carolina State University performs a DNA test on the A31P allele that could mutate in the MYBPC3 gene. We feel that the DNA test is the appropriate starting point for HCM testing. We follow with echocardiograms to get a clear picture of the individual cats.
Our goal is to produce the best possible kittens to show in the CFA ring. We are constantly learning about what looks closest to the standard and what the judges are looking for.
The last step for a Maine Coon to become part of our breeding program ... they must be playful, precocious, friendly lap warmers.
